Class Reflections

This enriching course allows students to bond and learn in a way that could not be achieved solely in a classroom. The ability of the students to not only learn in the classroom about mussels, water, and the environment but also actually get hands-on experience at rivers in conjunction with what we are learning in class lets us to be proactive, have a bigger overall impact and experience tangible results.

When most people think of an endangered species, they think about panda bears or tigers- not the spiny mussel that could easily be mistaken for river rock. Though the spiny mussel species may not have much appeal, it still needs our help. Over the course of the school year, we have come to appreciate the importance of a species that may seem trivial. We have learned a lot about the species itself, as well as taking different data measurements of local rivers as well as evaluating and comparing the data that was collected.
